Drying

How do I start?

Open VideoDryer, tap Add videos or Smart queue, check the size before and after on each video and tap Dry. Smart queue lists the heaviest videos and the saving you can expect.

How long does drying take?

The screen shows a rough estimate that is refined after the first piece. Fast drying of a typical clip takes minutes. Deep drying can take hours.

Where do I find the dried video?

Fast drying saves the video to Photos. Deep drying saves an AV1 file to the folder you chose in Files, because Photos does not accept AV1. Settings shows the folder and lets you forget it.

Drying stopped when I locked the iPhone.

iOS limits what an app may do in the background. Progress is saved after every 10-second piece. Open the app and use the cycle button on the drying screen: the job continues from the last finished piece and at most one piece is lost. During deep drying the screen is kept on on purpose, so plug the iPhone in if the job is long.

Why is a video missing from Smart queue?

Smart queue skips Slo-mo, time-lapse and Cinematic videos, and lists only videos above the minimum size set at the top of the sheet.

What does the “Where I watch” setting change?

It sets the quality target. Phone aims at what a phone screen shows and gives smaller files. Big screen keeps more detail and gives larger files.

How do I send a video from Photos?

Open the video in Photos, tap Share and choose “Dry the video”. The app opens with the video in the dryer.

Does it work with iCloud videos?

Yes. A video stored only in iCloud is downloaded to the iPhone first, over Wi-Fi only by default (Settings, Download from iCloud only on Wi-Fi). Drying such a video frees iCloud space, not space on the phone.

How do I free space taken by temporary files?

Settings, Clear cache. It removes temporary pieces and video copies that are no longer needed. Videos in the dryer are kept.

Originals

Are originals deleted?

Not by default. Originals stay next to the dried copies. You can delete them from the result screen, or turn on deleting after drying. iOS asks you to confirm.

I deleted an original by mistake.

Photos keeps deleted items for 30 days in Recently Deleted. Open the Recently Deleted album and recover the video.

Does the dried copy keep the date and place?

Yes. The compressed video keeps the creation date and the location of the original.

Badge and purchase

What is the badge?

A small ring with the VideoDryer mark in the bottom-right corner of videos dried after the first 7 days. It is part of the picture of the new video. Videos dried during the first 7 days have none.

How do I remove it?

Buy “Remove the badge forever” once. After the first week, Settings has a Badge on videos row, and the result screen has a quiet line that opens the same offer. The purchase applies to videos dried after it, not to ones already dried.

Is it a subscription?

No. It is a one-time purchase and is not renewed.

Do the features change after 7 days?

No. Every function stays available. Only the badge is added.

I bought it on another device or reinstalled the app.

Open Settings, tap Restore purchase and sign in with the same Apple Account.

Privacy

Does VideoDryer collect any data?

No. The app has no analytics, advertising or tracking, no account and no network requests of its own. See the Privacy Policy.
